Police Investigating Double Murder at Essequibo

Police are investigating the alleged double murder of brothers Marvin Joseph, 17, and Ellis Joseph, 30. Both men were labourers residing in Parika Facade.

The incident occurred around 3:00 PM yesterday at Lot 4’A’ St. Lawrence, East Bank Essequibo, the residence of 51-year-old housewife Annette Miguel and her family.

Accordinf to police reports, around 3:00 PM, Ryan Fredericks, a 25-year-old miner from Pomeroon and Annette Miguel’s nephew, disembarked a minibus and walked towards his aunt’s house. As he entered the yard, he saw Marvin and Ellis Joseph passing by on a motor canter.

The brothers then disembarked, armed with cutlasses, and attacked Fredericks.

Fredericks attempted to flee into the house, but the brothers pursued him. He escaped by jumping through a glass louvre window on the lower floor.

During the confrontation, it is believed that Marvin and Ellis accidentally inflicted wounds on each other while attacking Fredericks.

Marvin collapsed on a wooden bridge outside the yard, unconscious, while Ellis was seen bleeding profusely. Ellis was taken to Leonora Cottage Hospital by a passerby but died while receiving medical attention.

Police transported Fredericks to the same hospital with a severe chop wound on his back and several smaller cuts. His condition is serious.

Marvin’s body was found with a deep abdominal wound and protruding intestines, while Ellis had two abdominal wounds. Both bodies have been sent to Ezekiel Funeral Home for post-mortem examinations.

The investigation is ongoing.
