Authorities in Regional Division #3 are probing a suspected case of suicide that transpired today in Hubu, East Bank Essequibo.

According to initial reports, Deonarine Bhukhan, also known as Billy, an 83-year-old pensioner, is believed to have taken his own life using a shotgun.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased lived alone at a residence in the mentioned area, occupying a one-story wooden and concrete structure.

Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement discovered the lifeless body of the individual lying beneath his house. Beside him lay a shotgun, and what appeared to be bloodstains were observed on his head. The deceased was attired in Burgundy pants and a blue shirt.

Further examination revealed a gunshot wound to the head.

The area was meticulously examined, and among the findings was a firearm license for a 16-gauge shotgun, along with four live 16-gauge cartridges.

A press statement from the Guyana Police Force suggests that no signs of forced entry into the premises were evident.

The body was subsequently transported to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, where a medical professional pronounced the individual deceased upon arrival. It was later conveyed to the Ezekiel Funeral Home, pending a post-mortem examination.

The firearm discovered at the scene was duly marked, secured, and lodged at the Leonora Police Station.

As investigations progress, authorities are working to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
