SINKING: Moleson Creek woman seeks help before it all goes down

Slowly but surely: the sinking home of Sharda and her husband

If all goes well, Sharda Arjune, her 14-year-old son and her sick husband could be rescued from their sinking house which is located at Moleson Creek, Corentyne Berbice.

Sharda and her husband

For Forty Seven Year Old Sharda Arjune who has over the years been caring for her children and a sickly husband who has been unable to work for years, the request is simple, she needs assistance to build a habitable and comfortable home.

Residing at Moleson Creek, Corentyne Berbice the now unemployed woman told BIG Smith News Watch that for most of her years she has been struggling to care for her four children in an environment without basic necessities. She described it as a tough fight for survival.

Arjune explained that she was forced to become the sole breadwinner of the home after her husband became a psychiatric patient and while she struggled to deal with that and sending her children to school, the end result was that the children had to drop out of school because of the financial burden at the time.

A section of the couple’s home

At the moment she cares for her sickly husband and their 14-year-old son who is the youngest of her four children. The others have moved. The 14-year-old works on a cattle farm as a means of bracing her mother financially.

“I don’t have a proper house. I’m punishing so much. It’s just me… my husband is not working years now. I don’t sleep properly because. One, one-time people does bring ration (Groceries) and share it give me. That’s how get things at times” Arjune stated in tears

Willing to work once the opportunity presents itself, Arjune explained that she has been without a job for close to a year, and with coronavirus, her attempts over the last few months to see employment became even harder given the need for social distancing and other factors.

We were introduced to her through a young lady who is presently distributing supplies to families in Berbice affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

Sharda Arjune is asking anyone who is interested in helping her to make her home a bit more accommodating to chip in in whatever way possible. She explained that where her house is located, the building is sinking given that the land is low and the rain beats on it. She also noted that the thick vegetation around the area make her living environment reptile invested.
