At just 22- years- old, Johntel Griffith is working on creating a legacy through cookery and great innovations.

The entrepreneur is a former student of the Kingston Secondary and he desired to be different. He did not want to take the same career path as his peers at the institution.

Griffith has no regret taking his own path and following his own rules at his own pace, as he’s labelled the challenges as stepping stones for the greater plan, he had for himself.

He became a clothes vendor for about two years leading up to CSEC, this helped him to gain extra incentives to access the basic necessities as a young man, but alluded that it was at that moment he realized his ‘people skills’ was something special.

The young man started to perfect his arts and hatched a plan that would eventually make him the chief breadwinner of his family.

When Griffith completed his CSEC exams, his desire was to work somewhere where he can attain a workable wage and a fixed salary, so he went on to become a teacher, and taught at the Peters Hall Primary school, a move he relishes to this day as another stepping stone in his journey.

He was able to interact with youths who lacked motivation and were unsure of their own futures, somewhere between inspiring youngsters and helping them find a purpose, Johntel stumbled upon his greatest skill, which was cooking.

In 2019 Griffith began cooking for public consumption, he started his food spot on Albert Street Georgetown with just a table and a tent. But he desired to perfect his recipes in order to expand and grow his business.

‘’The start was the best part, and at that moment I felt independence and that feeling made me think and even come up with ideas that other fast-food outlets don’t have and he began to be creative moving from just food and burgers to milkshakes also and other delicious treats.”

In 2020, the global pandemic hit and everything came to a halt Griffith took a gamble by deciding to continue his business, risking his and his family’s health and well-being, and while it was a sacrifice, it is one that he is proud of to this day. He continued to do business in a manner that customers can come and uplift their meals, while also offering a delivery service for convenience.

Johntel has since moved from that table and tent to a fully self-contained food caravan where customers can even stop by and eat in a safe, healthy and convenient environment.

The sky is definitely the limit for this 22-year-old who is doing his best to bring exquisite cuisine and taste to the Guyanese public.

Johntel has set goals to have international customers taste the real essence of Guyanese cuisine while they stay on his homeland.

Griffith calls his business “Unruly Taste” and believes that food is a form of therapy for many in many ways, as it was his when he felt troubled and faced difficulty.

He says as a youngster, it was not his aim to work in an office or work for the government or the private sector, he had reservations about furthering his tertiary education as well, but he eventually realized his dream and found his calling, aspiring to have the best fast-food spot around Georgetown and someday in all of Guyana.
