Gabriella Allen, otherwise known as “Gabby”, the 20-year-old woman who was found guilty by a jury back in February of raping a girl, was on Monday, sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment.

The jail term was imposed by High Court Judge Priya Sewnarine-Beharry following a trial at the Sexual Offences Court in Demerara.

Allen of Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) had been on trial for the offence of rape of a child under age 16, contrary to Section 10 (3) of the Sexual Offences Act.

Despite the jury’s verdict, the now-convicted woman has continued to profess her innocence, stating that she was “set up” by the child’s family. Allen once worked at a daycare centre.

She was represented by Attorney-at-Law Adrian Thompson, while Attorneys-at-Law Simran Gajraj, Latifah Elliot, and Rbina Christmas presented the case for the prosecution.

Allen was initially charged with the crime back in 2021.
