Man Remanded for Assaulting Ex-Boyfriend

January 20 2025- Noel Husbands, a 23-year-old man from La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara (WBD), was remanded to prison after being charged with unlawful wounding in a case involving his former same-
sex partner, Eon Greene.

Husbands appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates Courts on Friday before Acting Chief Magistrate
Faith Mc Gusty, where he pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The incident, reportedly the culmination of weeks of mounting tension, occurred on January 14,
2025.

Husbands and Greene, who had previously cohabited in Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD), were
embroiled in a volatile relationship that eventually deteriorated.

Following their separation, Greene relocated to his mother’s home on Middle Road, La Penitence,
Georgetown. However, their animosity persisted, escalating into violent confrontations.

In court, Husbands alleged that Greene had subjected him to repeated physical abuse, resulting in a
broken arm, multiple bruises, and the loss of personal belongings.

He claimed that despite filing police reports about the abuse, no action was taken, intensifying the
already strained relationship.

Greene’s account presented a starkly different narrative.

He alleged that on January 14, 2025, Husbands arrived at his mother’s home, broke the windows,
and set the curtains on fire.

Greene stated that the following day, as he attempted to secure the damaged windows with the
help of a relative, Husbands returned and reignited a fire by pushing plastic through the newly
installed mesh.

Greene further accused Husbands of locking him and his mother inside the house, endangering their
lives. Fortunately, they managed to escape unharmed.

The prosecution argued against granting bail, citing the gravity of the allegations and the ongoing
hostility between the parties. Prosecutors expressed concerns about Greene’s safety, emphasising
the likelihood of further violence if Husbands were released.

Acting Chief Magistrate Mc Gusty acknowledged the severity of the case and denied bail, remanding
Husbands to prison. His next court appearance is scheduled for February 7, 2025.
