Dead in Police Custody: Lallbacchan Bacchan

Relatives of the deceased Lallbacchan Bacchan of lot 21 Maria Lodge, Region 2 are calling for a thorough investigation into the sudden death of the 39 year while in police custody at the Suddie Police Station.

The father of four was this morning discovered dead in his station cell. While relatives are contending that they suspect he was beaten, police sources who spoke with BIG Smith Crime Watch indicated that the gentleman was the only person in his cell and added to that, there were no marks of violence on his body when it was discovered at 06:10 hours Monday morning.

A postmortem performed on the remains of the man found that he died from a fractured larynx which the pathologist said can be caused by ‘fall’. According to a police statment with the details of the PM, same was done with dissection.

According to Google, “The larynx is another name for the voice box. It’s a tube about 2 inches (5cm) long in adults. It sits above the windpipe (trachea) in the neck and in front of the food pipe. The food pipe in the upper part of the neck is called the pharynx”

Bacchan was arrested Friday June 28, 2019 after the police acted on two arrest warrants which were issued for him by the courts in connection with driving under the influence of alcohol. After he was arrested his car was also impounded.

His grieving wife Samantha Bacchan related to BIG Smith Crime Watch that relatives were not permitted to see him. According to her, whenever meals were taken for him the police would have them sign for the food and leave the station.

The distraught wife recalled her husband being someone who was high in spirits before he was arrested and right now, it remains very traumatic and shocking for the family having been greeted with the news of his demise. The woman said that she was able to view the remains at the parlour.

“When I went his body was swollen, he had a big bump to his head, bruised to his elbow and knee, I am really baffled how that happened, my husband is a strong person his death is a mystery” she asserted

When his mother took a meal for him on Friday after he was arrested, the woman related that her son was shouting for her to take him at Suddie Public Hospital when a police called “Milo” told her that he was healthy.

She said her son also complained that the lock up was dark and he wasn’t seeing properly. She said on several occasion she pleaded with the police for her son to get medical attention but those requests were denied.

According to her, a traffic rank “Thomas” approached the family for $100,000 Guyana dollars to assist the matter but they didn’t had the money.

The deceased mother is calling for justice since she believed that her son was beaten to death in the lock up.
