The 26-year-old man who Police said admitted to murdering 86-year-old Agnes Dilon because she refused to pay him for weeding her yard, was on Thursday charged with the capital offence of murder.

Neman Persaud called ‘Boye’, a construction worker, of Second Street, Mon Repos North, East Coast Demerara (ECD), appeared before Magistrate Rushelle Liverpool, at the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Courts.

He was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that between  June 29, and June 30, at Mon Repos North, ECD, he murdered Dilon.

The murder accused was remanded to prison until September 12.

According to reports, Persaud told investigators that he stabbed the elderly woman to death as she lay in her bed after she allegedly failed to pay him for weeding her yard. Dilon’s body was found lying in a pool of blood on her bed, with suspected stab wounds to her left and right upper chest.

She also appeared to have been chopped on her right hand and the right side of her face.

The pensioner lived alone in the lower flat of the two-story property, while the landlady resides in the upper flat.

Dilon was reportedly last seen washing clothes at around 17.00 hrs on June 29. She was found after the landlady became concerned when she did not see her the following day.

When calls to the pensioner’s phone also went unanswered, the landlady contacted a neighbour. He pried a window and saw the elderly woman’s body on her bed.
