Guyanese show strong support for ICC U-19 World Cup Opener

The Providence National Stadium came to life on Friday after almost two years without a sporting event, to host the ICC Under-19 World Cup Opener.

The ICC (International Cricket Council) could not have chosen a better venue to host the opener of their U-19 Men’s World Cup as Guyanese from all walks of life showed up at the National Stadium to show their love and support for the U-19 West Indies Rising Stars.

Although the crowd was nowhere close to the numbers that the Stadium usually draws, the fans made their presence felt with cheers at every ball hit, every good bit of fielding and at the fall of every wicket. All in all the next generation of West Indian cricket stars were not short of support and the return of international cricket to Guyana has surely lifted spirits.

Spectators had to present their vaccination cards and were made to follow all covid-19 protocols including sitting at least one seat apart. With Friday’s support, one can expect an amazing atmosphere for the next game (India vs South Africa) at the National Stadium. First ball bowls off at 9:00hrs. Fans are asked to walk with their vaccination cards and digital/physical tickets which can be downloaded for free via the ICC website.
