CAPTURED Richardo Mitchell

Police officers in West Berbice on Friday afternoon captured 30-year-old Ricardo Mitchell, also known as ‘Cardo’, of Rosignol, for whom a wanted bulletin had been issued last month.

Mitchell was being sought in connection with the shooting death of Winston Robertson on August 10, 2020, at Cotton Tree, West Coast Berbice.

Police sources in Berbice indicated that Mitchell was hiding in the backlands, not too far from where the bodies of the Henry teens were found.

According to what this publication was told, a resident from Cotton Tree received information of the man’s presence, and shared that information with the police. Mitchell was reportedly initially questioned in connection with the murders of the teens, but denied any knowledge or involvement.

When the police attempted to apprehend him on Friday, he tried to escape by scaling a fence a short distance away, but the lawmen caught up with him.

It is alleged that Mitchell, the reputed husband of a woman with whom Robertson was having an affair, shot Robertson after he found out about the affair.

On the day in question, Robertson was driving along the Cotton Tree, West Coast Berbice road when he was shot. He then lost control of his vehicle and careened into a building.

The woman, with whom both men shared a relationship, was reportedly constantly abused by Mitchell, and so she decided to run away from her  D’Edward Village home, but was later found by Mitchell, who held her at gunpoint.

It was during that time that Robertson attempted to drive off, leaving the woman and Mitchell, but Mitchell fired shots at Robertson’s vehicle, and fatally struck the man.
