In November 2017, 14 years after he allegedly shot and killed a man outside of the Blue Iguana Night Club in Georgetown, Mark Lowchee was apprehended and charged with the crime. Following a Preliminary Inquiry (PI), he was committed to stand trial at the Demerara Criminal Assizes.

On Thursday, the accused killer was arraigned before Justice Navindra Singh and a 12-member jury at the High Court in Demerara.

Lowchee, who is being represented by Attorney-at-law Ravindra Mohabir, pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on September 21, 2003, at Georgetown, he murdered Collis De Abreau.

Following his not guilty plea, Lowchee was further remanded to prison. His trial starts Monday.

Based on reports, on the day in question, there was a misunderstanding between the Lowchee and the owner of the nightclub. It is alleged that during the ordeal, Lowchee whipped out a handgun and discharged several shots in the vicinity of the nightclub.

De Abreau formerly of Alberttown, Georgetown, and some other patrons were injured in the aftermath. He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Following the killing, Police had issued a wanted bulletin for Lowchee.

In another matter before the same judge, Kevin Mohan pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on September 4, 2016, at Cummings Lodge, Greater Georgetown, he murdered his aunt, Anita Mohan called ‘Sandra’, a vendor. Kevin Mohan, called ‘Chucky’ is also being represented by attorney Mohabir.

This trial is ongoing.

According to reports, Anita Mohan, 48, was found lying in a pool of blood on the lower flat of her home located at Lot 315 Cummings Lodge. It was reported that the woman was struck to the head with a rolling pin. An autopsy gave her cause of death as multiple injuries.
