Senior Magistrate Leron Daly on Tuesday committed a Norton Street, Lodge, Georgetown man to stand trial for the alleged rape of a 14-year-old girl.

Thirty-four-year-old Linton Davidson was not required to plead to the charge which stated that between January 1, 2013 and January 3,2013 at Norton Street Lodge, he engaged in sexual penetration with a 14-year-old girl.

Davidson was charged on July 10, 2020, for the offence.

At the conclusion of a Preliminary Inquiry, Magistrate Daly noted that after perusing the entirety of the evidence, she was satisfied that a prima facie case was established against Davidson to put him on trial by a jury.

Accordingly, Davidson was committed to stand trial at the next practicable sitting of the Demerara Assizes.

According to information, the child is known to the defendant. Sometime during the period mentioned in the charge, the child was left in his care.

It is alleged that Davidson raped the child while her mother was out. The child later confided in her mother about what had transpired and the matter was reported to the police.

An investigation was carried out and Davidson was arrested and charged. He remains on bail pending the outcome of his trial.
