Toshaos from across Region Nine have gathered in Lethem for the 2026 Regional Toshaos’ Conference, a two-day engagement focused on village leadership, development concerns and preparations for the upcoming National Toshaos’ Council Conference.

The conference, being held from July 8 to 9, was opened with the participation of Minister of Natural Resources Vickram Bharrat and Minister of Amerindian Affairs Sarah Browne-Shadeek.

The regional conferences are held across the country ahead of the annual National Toshaos’ Council Conference in Georgetown. The meetings provide village leaders with an opportunity to engage government officials, raise community concerns and discuss matters affecting their respective villages.

As part of the conference programme, Toshaos are also receiving training in leadership and management aimed at strengthening their capacity to effectively administer village affairs.

The event also allows village leaders to share experiences, collaborate on common issues and prepare to represent their communities at the national conference.

Senior regional officials and councillors from villages across Region Nine are also participating in the conference.
