The Guyana Police Force has confirmed the detention of a 33-Y-O Colombian national, identified as Yeison Andres Sanchez Vallejo, during a routine security operation at the Kurupukari Police Checkpoint on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.

According to the Police, the man was traveling in a Lethem-bound minibus when he was stopped for standard screening.

Upon inspection, officers discovered that his passport carried an immigration stamp marked “RLL” (Refused Leave to Land).

Further checks reportedly revealed that Sanchez Vallejo is listed among individuals sanctioned by the United States for alleged involvement in drug trafficking activities.

The suspect was immediately taken into custody and is currently assisting investigators as the probe continues.

Police have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining robust border and security controls across Guyana’s transit routes.
