Trio Remanded for Murder of “The Brown Clothes Man”

Three men were on Wednesday remanded to prison in connection with the brutal killing of 73-year-old pensioner Kamaluddin Abrahim, also known as “The Brown Clothes Man”, of Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice.
The accused — Premchand Ramsohai, 29, a mason of Port Mourant; Darwin Trim, 33, a cane harvester of 113 Free Yard, Port Mourant; and Rajendra Balkaran, 46, a cane harvester of Lot 3 Rose Hall — appeared before Magistrate Michelle Matthias at the Reliance Magistrate’s Court.
Trim appeared virtually via Zoom. The men were unrepresented and were not required to plead to the indictable charge.
The court heard that between June 26 and July 1, 2023, the trio allegedly murdered Abrahim. They were remanded to prison and are expected to return to court for disclosure on October 14, 2025, at the Albion Magistrate’s Court.
The charges stem from renewed investigative efforts by detectives in Region Six (East Berbice–Corentyne), who reopened the year-old case and successfully linked the three men to the pensioner’s death through detailed evidence reviews and new witness accounts.
Abrahim, affectionately known as “The Brown Clothes Man”, was last seen alive on June 30, 2023. His decomposed remains were later discovered at the Rose Hall foreshore after his family filed a missing person’s report.
Investigators allege that the accused, who were known to the victim, had visited his home and noticed $45,000 on a table. When Abrahim refused to give them money, they allegedly beat him unconscious, took the cash, and transported him to the foreshore, where they continued the assault until he died.
One of the suspects, who has since confessed to the crime, was among those initially detained early in the investigation but later released due to a lack of evidence.
A post-mortem examination was inconclusive because of the advanced state of decomposition.
Family members have since expressed relief that progress has finally been made in the case, while police continue to encourage anyone with information to come forward to assist in solving other unresolved crimes.
