Tiger Bay Vendor Remanded for Assaulting ‘Child Mother’

August 28 2025
A Tiger Bay water vendor accused of beating the mother of his child was on Wednesday ordered remanded to prison.
Fifty-eight-year-old Diaram Narine of Middle Street, Tiger Bay, appeared before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, where he was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm.
The charge stems from an incident on August 25 at Queen Street, Georgetown, during which Narine allegedly attacked Dakota Agard
Prosecutors told the court that Agard had approached Narine to discuss an issue concerning their child.
An argument broke out, and Narine allegedly armed himself with a bicycle bar and struck her repeatedly about the body.
The matter was later reported to the police, resulting in Narine’s arrest.
Addressing the court, Agard explained that she communicates with Narine only because of their daughter and pleaded for an order that he stay away from her.
In his response, Narine denied having any relationship with the complainant and told the court that “the child is bound to me by spirit and not by law.”
He went on to request a DNA test to establish paternity.
Although the prosecution noted that Narine has no prior convictions and raised no objection to bail, Magistrate Latchman denied the application.
He was remanded to prison until September 26.
