The Guyana Police Force has effectively disrupted the crime spree which has been plaguing a number of villages along the Corentyne coast over the last few weeks and which has forced the administration of the force to deploy its SWAT Unit.

On Sunday afternoon, three bandits were shot dead by the police in the back lands of Mibicuri Black Bush Polder, Corentyne after ranks moved to the location following reports of suspicious looking characters being in that area.

Dead are Kelvin Shivgobin also known as ‘Kelly” who was wanted for a double murder back in 2018, and murder accused Nesham Jagmohan. The identity of the other bandit was up to press time not known.

Sometime after noon on Sunday the police set out to comb the area when they came under rapid fire and return fire. The police said the gunfire lasted for approximately five minutes and when that subsided, the ranks moved in closer where they found three motionless males with suspected gunshot injuries.

A search of the area found more than half a million Guyana dollars which is suspected to have been taken from victims who were robbed over the period the bandits were wreaking havoc along the Corentyne Coast.

The Guyana Police Force in a statement on the matter early Monday spoke of the operation and also released the items which were recovered during the operation, they are as follows; 1 pistol, 2 revolvers, 1 rifle, 3 magazines, 253 live ammunition, 7 spent shells, 3 haversacks, 2 yellow metal chains, 4 yellow metal earrings, 2 yellow metal rings, 2 sliver bands, 1 yellow metal band, 1 silver pendant, $609,330.00 Guyana currency, 2 foreign currency notes, 2 bulletproof vests, 5 cellular phones, 1 solar charger, flash lights, crowbar, knife, cutlass, flash drive, thighs with eye holes, topes and mask, duck-tape and gloves and 200 grams of cannabis.

The police did not say definitively if the SWAT Unit was involved in the operation. However now with the dent in the ring has been made, the resident of the Corentyne Coast are expected to have less fear when retiring to bed. Investigation in progress.
