Social drinking during social distancing results in murder; two arrested

Woman takes her life after checking into short-time hotel

A couple has been arrested and is said to be assisting the police with investigations into the alleged murder of a 40-year-old laborer. the couple has been identified as a 29 and 40-year-old

Dead is Albert Raghu called ‘Soldier’ of Lot 218 Hope West, Enmore, East Coast Demerara who resides with his wife in the upper flat of a house at the said address while the suspects live in the lower flat.

A statement from the police on Monday noted that the couple were imbibing and playing music in their apartment, much to the annoyance and disturbance of the wife of Albert who was at home alone at the time.

At approximately 23:30Albert arrived home and his wife brought the discomfort to his attention and he reportedly armed himself with a cutlass and confronted the suspects who were in the yard at the time.

The male suspect, according to the police armed himself with two knives and an argument ensued between the two.

The female suspect then allegedly chocked the victim whilst her husband allegedly stabbed him twice in the left side chest and shoulder.

Raghu was then taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he received medical attention and was admitted but succumbed to his injuries at approximately 05:30hrs on Monday.

The police indicated that the male suspect was also treated for a wound to the left side of his abdomen.
