Police seize four firearms in different operations

Police are investigating several incidents after four suspected firearms and ammunition were seized during intelligence-led operations conducted on Thursday, January 1, in Georgetown and along the East Coast Demerara.
In the early hours, at about 03:40 hrs, police intercepted a car at South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, after the driver attempted to evade ranks on patrol.
A search of the vehicle revealed a suspected 9mm pistol and a magazine with three rounds.
The driver, a 26-year-old man of Lamaha Park, was arrested and taken to the East La Penitence Police Station.
Later in the morning, ranks of Regional Police Division 4 ‘C’ conducted operations in the Sparendaam/Plaisance Railway Embankment area, resulting in three more arrests.
At about 06:00 hrs, a 39-year-old security guard was arrested after police observed him allegedly firing a shot into the air along the Sparendaam Access Road.
A licensed 9mm pistol and ammunition were recovered and lodged as investigations continue.
Around 06:30 hrs, police intercepted a motorcycle and arrested a 38-year-old businessman after finding a suspected .40 pistol and one round of ammunition on his person.
Shortly after, at about 06:40 hrs, a 47-year-old chief security officer was arrested in the same area after police found a suspected 9mm pistol and ammunition during a search.
All four suspects remain in police custody. The firearms and ammunition have been lodged, and investigations into the separate incidents are ongoing.
