A 21-year-old man lost his life on New Year’s Day following a horrific motorcycle accident at Coldingen, East Coast Demerara, which occurred on Thursday, January 1, 2026, at about 07:00 hrs.

The victim has been identified as Brandon Thomas, a construction worker of Melanie, East Coast Demerara.

Police said Thomas was riding motorcycle CN 8252 east along the northern driving lane of the Coldingen Public Road when he allegedly lost control of the bike while travelling at a fast rate of speed and fell onto the roadway.

As a result of the impact, Thomas sustained severe injuries about his body.

He was picked up by public-spirited citizens and rushed in an unconscious state to the Enmore Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty.

The body was later escorted to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Police have since observed several CCTV cameras in the area, which will be reviewed as investigations into the fatal incident continue.
