Police Eradicate Cannabis Farm in Berbice River

In a recent operation, police in Regional Division #10 successfully conducted a drug eradication exercise in the Berbice River area, targeting a large cannabis cultivation site between Wiruni and St. Lust.
According to a police report, the operation uncovered a sprawling three-acre cannabis farm, with plants ranging from four to six feet in height. The site featured 250 beds, each containing 50 plants, totaling approximately 12,500 plants.
These plants, with an estimated weight of 27,500 kilograms, had a street value of approximately GY$3.88 million.
In addition to the main cultivation area, officers discovered a nursery housing around 25,200 young cannabis plants, along with approximately 140 pounds of dried cannabis.
The police also found two makeshift camps equipped with hammocks, kitchen utensils, and a quantity of groceries. The camps, along with the cannabis plants, were destroyed by fire as part of the operation.
The eradication exercise marks a significant effort by law enforcement to combat illegal drug activities in the region.
