Venezuelan National Fatally Stabbed Outside Supermarket

30-Y-O Venezuelan construction worker, Omar Nazareth Martinez Rodriguez was fatally assaulted and stabbed outside the Panda Supermarket at Goed Fortuin, West Bank Demerara, on Saturday evening, June 14, 2025.
According to police reports the incident occurred around 19:40 hrs while Rodriguez was in a taxi heading home.
As the vehicle approached the Demerara Harbour Bridge roundabout, three men, also of Venezuelan nationality, rode up on a motorcycle.
Two of the suspects reportedly dismounted, opened the taxi door, and began beating Rodriguez.
The driver, in an attempt to escape, sped off with one of the attackers still inside the vehicle.
He later stopped at Goed Fortuin and forcibly removed the suspect from the car, locking Rodriguez inside.
Moments later, while at the nearby Panda Supermarket, the driver observed Rodriguez fleeing towards the store.
A 29-year-old security guard on duty at the supermarket said he saw Rodriguez being chased by three men who continued to beat him. One of the assailants, armed with a knife, stabbed the victim multiple times before the group fled the scene.
Rodriguez sustained injuries to his neck, chest, right hand, and right foot. His body was later taken to Ezekiel Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Acting on intelligence, police arrested two of the suspects in La Grange. They are currently in custody as the investigation continues.
