USD $46 extra pay for army ranks at “high-risk” border locations

Following three separate violent attacks on Guyanese Soldiers operating in border locations back in May, 2025, the Guyana Defence Force is now moving to provide an incentive for all ranks working at high risks border locations.

 

A number of army ranks have reached out to this publication expressing frustation at the army’s proposed $10,000 (Ten Thousand Guyana Dollars) the equivalent of $46 (Forty-Six United States Dollars) which will be recorded as a monthly allowance on their basic salaries.

 

Based on what this publication was told, the Guyana Defence Force engaged its troops informing them or the allowance which will be added to their salary effective from July, 2025.

 

Guyana has continously been on the receiving end of aggression and show of aggression by Venezuelan Nationals in civilian and army uniforms while performing duties at border locations.

 

While forms and shows of aggression by Venezuelans make their way to the press, others are repodted to the GDF where it is addressed in house.
