Back-to-Back Earthquakes Rattle Caribbean Region

Several Caribbean nations experienced light tremors on Monday following two earthquakes recorded within an eight-hour span, according to the Seismic Research Centre (SRC) based at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine campus in Trinidad.
The more recent tremor, which struck at 9:40 a.m., registered a magnitude of 3.9 and occurred at a depth of 17 kilometres. Its epicentre was located at latitude 11.86N and longitude 61.05W, approximately 80 kilometres east-southeast of Grenada’s capital, St. George’s, and 137 kilometres north-northeast of Arima, Trinidad.
Earlier in the day, at around 1:31 a.m., a 3.6-magnitude earthquake was recorded at a depth of 19 kilometres. The epicentre of that quake was positioned at latitude 15.82N and longitude 60.87W.
The tremor was felt across parts of the eastern Caribbean, including 81 kilometres southeast of Roseau, Dominica; 88 kilometres southeast of Point-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe; and 137 kilometres north of Fort-de-France, Martinique.
The SRC reported no immediate damage or injuries associated with either event. Authorities continue to monitor seismic activity in the region.
