Over $1B Worth of Cannabis Destroyed in Upper Berbice River

Ranks from the Guyana Police Force’s Narcotics Branch, in collaboration with Regional Police Division #6, carried out a major eradication exercise on Wednesday at Kuyorokuri Creek, Upper Berbice River, where more than $1 billion (street value) worth of cannabis was found and destroyed.
According to a police report, during the Joint Narcotics Eradication Exercise, police ranks discovered six cannabis farms spread across 21 acres of open savannah. The farms contained approximately 118,000 plants measuring between two and seven feet in height. Officers also uncovered eight camps and ten drying areas containing a total of 2,500 pounds of dried cannabis.

In addition to the drugs, several pieces of machinery and equipment were seized, including one tractor, seven tilling machines, one chainsaw, two generators, six weeding machines, three mist blowers, sixteen spray cans, and nine water pumps.

The cannabis plants, dried cannabis, camps, and drying areas were destroyed by fire. Police reported that the operation was conducted without incident.
