Inaugural Drag Race Meet to be Held in Berbice

October 2 2025
The Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) is poised to expand its influence nationwide with the launch of Berbice’s first drag racing event on October 12. This event represents a major effort to decentralize motorsport and bring thrilling high-speed racing to the “Ancient County.”
Scheduled to occur at the Rose Hall Canjie Airstrip, the competition will showcase elite racing vehicles in a quarter-mile race, beginning at 10:00 AM. GMR&SC Vice President Mohamed Shiraz Roshandin highlighted that this initiative is a direct response to the persistent requests from the Berbice community.
Selecting an appropriate venue was challenging, with safety and spectator visibility being top priorities. After careful planning, the Rose Hall Canjie Airstrip was selected, and club representatives will inspect the location later this week to finalize safety protocols.
The success of this inaugural event is crucial, as a strong turnout could secure its place as a regular fixture in the GMR&SC’s schedule. Tickets will be available at the entrance, priced at $2,000 for adults and $1,000 for children.
