GDF Rank Charged with Assault, Granted Bail

A 29-year-old member of the Guyana Defence Force was on Wednesday charged with assault causing actual bodily harm.

The accused, Akeem Ramascindo, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts and pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The court heard that on June 23, 2025, at Mc Doom, Greater Georgetown, Ramascindo allegedly assaulted Victoria Wan, causing her injuries.

The prosecutor objected to bail, citing concerns for the complainant’s safety and the prevalence of domestic violence offences.

The court was told that Ramascindo and Wan were known to each other through work, and that Wan is currently in a relationship with the accused’s child’s mother.

Wan’s attorney, Everton Singh-Lammy, argued that Ramascindo had previously tried to interfere with the legal process and had been intimidating the complainant. He requested that conditions be attached to any bail granted to prevent further harassment.

In response, Ramascindo said he only visits the Mc Doom area to see his mother and child on weekends, and had no objection to staying away from Wan.

Magistrate McGusty granted Ramascindo $20,000 bail and ordered him to have no contact with the complainant. The matter was adjourned to October 22.
