Police have launched an investigation into an alleged murder and attempted murder following a stabbing incident at Barakat Landing, Cuyuni River, on Sunday, January 11, 2026.

According to investigators, the incident involved two brothers who were employed as pork-knockers in the area.

Reports indicate that during the evening hours, the brothers became embroiled in a heated altercation with another male at the landing.

During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly armed himself with a pair of scissors and stabbed both men multiple times about their bodies. One of the brothers succumbed to his injuries, while the other sustained critical wounds. The suspect reportedly fled the scene immediately after the attack and remains on the run.

In an update, the Guyana Police Force confirmed that the deceased has been identified as 27-year-old Matthew Ramlichan, a pork-knocker formerly of the Soesdyke–Linden Highway.

His body is presently at the Bartica Regional Hospital Mortuary, awaiting transport to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where a post-mortem examination is to be conducted.

The injured brother has been identified as 39-year-old Tyrone Ramlichan, also a pork-knocker of the Soesdyke–Linden Highway. Police said his condition is currently listed as stable.

Efforts are ongoing to locate and apprehend the suspect as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident continue.
