21 year old Vickram Ramraj called ‘Andy’ of lot 85 Tuschen Old Road, East Bank Essequibo is now dead following a fatal accident on the La Jalousie Public Road, West Coast Demerara at approximately 01:00hrs on Thursday.

According to a police statement issued this morning, the deceased and two other occupants including the driver were in the vehicle when the car slammed into a concrete fence resulting in those who were in the vehicle, sustaining injuries. It was related that the vehicle was driving along the roadway at a fast rate and reportedly veered to the other side of the road where it collided with the fence and then turned turtle.

“Enquiries disclosed that the deceased and one Nafeeza Abrahim 31 of Parika, EBE, were occupants of Motorcar PSS 9367 driven by a 20- year-old resident of Tuschen Housing Scheme, EBE” the police release stated.

The injured persons were all rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where they were treated, stabilized. Ramraj was then then transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he received further treatment but succumbed to his injuries a a few hours later.

Abrahim remains hospitalised at West Demerara where the condition is listed as semi-conscious. The driver of the vehicle when he was discharged tested positive for alcohol consumption and was also said to be above the legal limit.

In images which came to BIG Smith Crime Watch that were taken at the crash site early this morning, a rum bottle could still be seen next to the mangled vehicle.

One person who close to the persons involved in the accident has reported that the drinking spree and driving is something that the friends would usually engage in pretty frequently.
