A teenager and another man were this afternoon killed on the spot in the Guyana National Stadium compound while erecting poles on which CCTV cameras were to be mounted.

Dead are Krishna Chand 17 of Lusignan and another man whose name was given as Anton, his surname, address and age is not known to this publication as this point.

The men were working as part of a projected for the Public Security Ministry where the were installing pole which are to facilitate the CCTV cameras as part of Government’s Safe City Project. Both of the dead are from separate sub contractors working on the project.

Another two individual were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where they are being treated for shock as a result of witnessing the unfortunate development.

According to what was communicated to BIG Smith Crime Watch when we arrived on the scene, the men were in the process of erecting one of the poles which came into contact with a high tension wire which forms part of the power supply network for the stadium.

The men were all said to be wearing their safety gears at the time of the incident.

The sub contractors spoke with BIG Smith Crime Watch at the scene where they related that the truck driver whose name was given as Anton was operating the lift which was positioning the pole on its base when a protruding part of the said pole connected with the high tension wire as the men focused on placing the base of the pole in its position.

Krishna Chand was said to be holding onto the pole in his effort to also direct the pole into his position when the electricity from the high tension wire flowed down and severely burnt through both him and anton’s gloves and almost melted their helmets.

Brian Cully was the name of the other man who was injured while the name of the other injured man was not immediately available to BIG Smith Crime Watch.
Both sub contractors have identifed their employees as hard working men who were dedicated.

The employer of the 27 year old has since made a commitment to stand the funeral expense for the young man.

This is third case of an electrocution in the last four months where men working in close proximity of power lines or directly with power lines have met their demise by coming into contact with life wires.

It is unclear what the general SOPs are when these types of jobs are being done and if the power company, Guyana Power and Light is usually made aware of this so that power can be disconnected to facilitate an incident free process
