A senior police officer attached to the Guyana Police Force Headquarters, Eve Leary is the subject of a sexual harassment probe after the allegations were made against him by a serving female member of the press.

BIG Smith News Watch was informed that the incident reportedly took place sometime in November after the journalist reached out to the officer for information on a matter which he was spearheading at the time.

We were informed that in November, an operation was conducted by the officer and his ranks and after the journalist asked to be facilitated with information, she was reportedly invited to the office of the senior policeman.

It is not clear if the incident took place on that day or if the two developed an understanding which lead to the alleged incident.

Contacted this evening, Commissioner of Police Leslie James confirmed that the force is dealing with a matter and that the Public relations Officer has been directed to issue a statement to the press.

The Commissioner would not say if the officer who holds a very senior position at the Force headquarters, has been removed from front line duties and the department which he heads.

A statement from the from the Police PRO office would only say “The Guyana Police Force is currently investigating a report of alleged sexual assault, allegedly committed by a senior officer on a journalist”

We were told that the the female journalist today, was taken for a medical examination at a state medical facility.
