“Faulty” Gas Bottle Puts Georgetown Family at Risk

October 11, 2024 – A resident of Charlotte Street, Georgetown, has raised concerns over a faulty gas bottle that put the lives of her and her two young children at risk.

The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, reported the incident after purchasing two gas bottles from Conway Taxi and Gas Delivery Service on Hadfield Street earlier this week. As she operates a food business, she relies on a constant gas supply.

According to the resident, after switching an empty bottle for a new one yesterday morning (October 10 2024), she discovered this morning that the new bottle was already empty.

Upon inspecting the bottle, she noticed a black, sticky substance around the broken seal, which she suspects was glue used to improperly seal the container.

The gas brand in question is being reported as ‘Massy Gas’, and the woman stated that she has since contacted the company, and they have promised to collect the bottle for inspection.

Although she did not detect the smell of gas that would suggest a significant leak, she remains deeply concerned about the safety of using another gas bottle, fearing the possibility of an explosion.

She expressed gratitude that no one was harmed, as she refrained from lighting the stove during the period when the gas may have leaked, avoiding what could have been a dangerous situation for her and her two toddlers.

Efforts to contact the Conway Taxi and Gas Delivery Service for a response to the incident proved futile.

The woman remains anxious about the potential risks and is urging the Gas company to take immediate action to prevent similar situations from occurring in the future.
