Unvaccinated persons are dying an alarming rates says Dr Mahendra Carpen. Dr Carpen who is the Head of Medical Services and Cardiology at the Georgetown Public Hospital was at the time providing the public with statistics on COVID-19 deaths on a programme called, Your Doctor and COVID.

The statistics presented were based on deaths recorded at ICU at the Infectious Diseases Hospital.

In March some 24 persons died while in April 37 deaths were recorded. Dr Carpen explained that by the time the vaccination programme started in March, there should have been less infections and deaths if more persons were vaccinated by May.

In May 59 persons died at the hospital, 57 were unvaccinated while 2 had taken one dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

In June, 56 persons died, 52 of those persons were not vaccinated, 2 had the first dose of Sputnik and 1 had the first dose of AstraZeneca and another one dose of Sinopharm.

“Even in our local context, we see persons who are dying, greater than 95% are persons who were not vaccinated,” Dr Carpen said, “It is a dramatic number, it is too large to ignore and to think that this is a coincidence, there are definitely benefits to the vaccines,” he pointed out.

Dr Carpen appealed for persons with commodities to join “the front of the line,” to be vaccinated as he said vaccines is the “greatest weapon” against COVID-19.

Diabetics, persons with hypertension, kidney disease, cancer patients and cancer survivors, persons living with HIV, tuberculosis and asthma are among those persons who should seek vaccinations. Persons with severe allergic reactions are advised to check with their doctors before vaccination.
