MV BARIMA DISTRESS: Berbice man selling meat in Region One among missing

July 20 2026
Devon Mars, a 46-year-old resident of Sandvoort Village, West Canje, Berbice, is among the persons who were onboard the distressed MV Barima, which sank off the coast of Essequibo between July 18 and 19, 2026, while travelling from Georgetown to Port Kaituma.
His younger sister, Dacia Mars, told BIG Smith News Watch that Devon was travelling to Region One to sell meat, which she said was his side business.
She said the family is desperately seeking information about his whereabouts following the sinking of the vessel.
“My brother was on the vessel also,” Dacia said as she appealed for help in locating him. The family remains hopeful that they will receive news as the search for those missing continues.
