Shirley Field man still missing after MV Barima sinking

Shawn John, a 40-year-old resident of Shirley Field, Georgetown, is among the persons who were onboard the distressed MV Barima, which sank off the coast of Essequibo between July 18 and 19, 2026, while travelling from Georgetown to Port Kaituma.
His son, Anthony, told BIG Smith News Watch that John was travelling to Region One to collect his cash grant and to work.
Anthony said his father was last seen on Saturday before the vessel went down and the family has not heard from him since.
The family is now desperately appealing for any information that could lead to locating Shawn John as the search continues for those missing following the MV Barima tragedy.
