Family searches for Delon Gaskin after MV Barima sinking

Delon Gaskin, a 34-year-old resident of 35 Good Fortune, is among the persons believed to have been onboard the distressed MV Barima, which sank off the coast of Essequibo between July 18 and 19, 2026, while travelling from Georgetown to Port Kaituma.
His relative, Nakita Gordon, told BIG Smith News Watch that although Gaskin’s name does not appear on the vessel’s manifest, the family believes he was onboard the boat.
Gordon said Gaskin was travelling to work and plied his trade as a gold miner.

She said the last communication from Gaskin was received at approximately 3:15 p.m. on Saturday, before the vessel sank.
Gordon added that Gaskin leaves behind two young children — a four-year-old and a six-week-old baby — and the family is desperately seeking information about his whereabouts.
