Scared for life: Alicia Damijo

Alicia Damijo is a 35-year-old hairdresser and mother of three children, ages 1, 5 and 11. She was born in Suriname but moved to Guyana at the age of three.

Sometime last year, she and her youngest child were drenched with acid by one of her customers who accused her of having an affair with her reputed husband, Alicia denied ever doing that.

On Wednesday she spoke with BIG Smith News Watch and explained that the burning took place in Suriname but the woman who attacked her is presently in Guyana.

The scared woman explained that on Tuesday she visited the Sparendaam Police Station where the police went and pick up the attacker but they subsequently let her go according to the distraught woman.

“I was there since around 7 o clock in the morning when I was there whole day then I later asked them what was going on and they said Suriname have to send out some kind of paper saying that she is wanted but I told them, I showed them pictures with them sending out a bulletin showing that this girl wanted, they say they can’t detain her more than 24 hours,” Alicia Damijo told BIG Smith News Watch

In tears, Alicia said the woman has damaged and changed her whole life and she wants justice, she said that the woman did approach her through a third party to discuss settlement but she is not interested in that.

“I can’t get to turn my neck, my ears…I can’t get to hear good, I can’t get to hold my baby good (pauses and starts crying) It really stressful she changed my whole life, now I can’t do anything I am asking for help because I need justice I can’t let her walk free, she did more than one thing in this country and she walks free and I need justice I can’t make her walk free. If she had killed me or my son?” Alicia stressed as she was brought to tears

At the moment the mother of three is preparing to have corrective surgeries done on parts of her body.
