MoTIC Hosts Prize Giving Ceremony for Snap & Share Competition

The Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce today held a prize-giving ceremony at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre at Liliendal, to award the winners of the Snap & Share 58 photo competition. Minister of Tourism Oneidge Walrond praised the outstanding quality of the photos submitted, noting that they added immense value to the competition.

The competition received more than 100 stunning images, making the selection of the top 58 a challenging task. Minister Walrond highlighted the competition’s objective to capture and celebrate Guyana through the lens, welcoming both amateur and professional photographers to participate.

“Each image tells a unique story about who we are as a destination,” Minister Walrond stated, adding that this competition aims to inspire travel and boost local tourism.

Prizes for this year have been increased from last year. The first prize includes a brand new Canon DSLR camera and free photography training.

The top five photos will be mounted at the Arthur Chung Conference Center, while the top 58 will be featured in the Snap & Share magazine.

Minister Walrond emphasized that this competition serves as an effective tool to market Guyana, showcasing its beauty and culture to the world.

The winner,  a photo of a young girl sitting in a canoe on a lake in Linden with a monkey drapped across her shoulder, emerged the winner of the SnapnShare 58 Photography Competition hosted by the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce.

The photo was submitted by Kevon Lorrimer.walked away with $200,000 cash, a DSLR Camera valued at $400,000, and a weekend for two at Karanambu Lodge valued at $2530 USD. Second place earned $150,000 cash and dinner for two at Cara Lodge, while third place received $100,000 and dinner for two at the Guyana Marriott.
