Mon Repos Man Charged With Armed Robbery

— Accused of snatching woman’s cellphone
A 30-year-old painter from Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, has been charged with Robbery Under Arms after allegedly robbing a woman of her cellphone.
The accused, Leon Persaud, was arrested on September 19, 2025, by ranks from the Beterverwagting Police Station. He was formally charged on Friday, September 26.
Persaud is accused of robbing 39-year-old Nadira Khemraj, also known as “Nado,” of Good Hope, ECD. Reports indicate that the victim was relieved of her Samsung S22 Ultra smartphone, valued at $180,000.
Persaud appeared before Senior Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to him. He pleaded not guilty.
Bail was refused, and Persaud was remanded to prison. The case has been adjourned to October 29, 2025, for report.
