May 9 2025 –

The Guyana Police Force has confirmed the recovery of 15-year-old Mariah Persaud, who was reported missing from her home at Lot 508 B Pump Road, Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke-Linden Highway.

Persaud had been the subject of a missing person bulletin issued after she was last seen at the residence of her mother, Naudia Mohamed.

According to a police report, acting on a tip, ranks conducted an operation at Lot 52 First Dam, Alliance Road, Timehri, East Bank Demerara.

Upon arrival, officers observed Persaud and an identifiable male fleeing into nearby bushes. The man was later identified as 18-year-old Jonathan Mitchu, also known as ‘Scrape Head,’ a farmer who resides at the same location.

Police quickly launched a coordinated search operation, which resulted in Mitchu’s arrest. Persaud was safely recovered and subsequently reunited with her parents.

Authorities have arranged a forensic interview with the teenager through child protection agency Blossom Inc., as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
