October 24, 2025 — Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Priya Manickchand, met today with the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) of Pomeroon-Supenaam (Region Two) as part of her ongoing nationwide initiative to engage directly with local democratic organs across Guyana.

The meeting, held at the RDC Boardroom in Anna Regina, is part of the Ministry’s broader effort to strengthen collaboration, enhance service delivery, and ensure that local governance bodies are effectively supported in carrying out their mandates.

In attendance were Regional Chairman Mr. Devin Mohan, Regional Vice Chairman Mr. Humace Oodit, Regional Executive Officer Ms. Susanah Saywack, and the newly sworn-in councillors of the Regional Democratic Council.

During the discussions, Minister Manickchand reaffirmed government’s commitment to partnering with the RDC to address key regional priorities, including infrastructure improvement, waste management, local economic development, and the delivery of quality social services. She underscored the importance of open communication and consistent collaboration to ensure that all citizens benefit equitably from national development initiatives.

This engagement is one in a series of planned meetings with Regional Democratic Councils (RDCs), Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs), and Municipalities nationwide, aimed at fostering stronger coordination between regional administrations and the Ministry. Through these sessions, the Ministry seeks to identify challenges firsthand and provide technical guidance to enhance local governance outcomes.

Minister Manickchand was accompanied by senior ministry officials, including Dr. Josh Kanhai, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Administration); Mr. Marcel Persaud, Technical Assistant and Administrator; Mr. Deolall Rooplall, Chief Regional Development Officer; Mr. Surendra Khayyam, Principal Regional Development Officer; and Mr. Herolall Doodnauth, Engineer.

The Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development reiterated its commitment to strengthening local governance systems and empowering regional and community leaders to drive sustainable national growth.
