October 15 2025
A 30-year-old woman of #78 Village, Corriverton, Berbice, is in police custody after a large quantity of fireworks was discovered at her residence during a joint cordon and search exercise on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.
According to a police report, during the operation, ranks found forty-seven (47) boxes of explosives concealed inside the woman’s home. She is currently assisting investigators as the probe continues.
The discovery comes amid growing concern over the widespread use of fireworks, which are known to cause major disturbances to both people and animals.
The loud explosions often disrupt communities, distress the elderly and infants, and trigger anxiety in pets and wildlife.
For years, animal welfare advocates and concerned citizens have been calling for stricter enforcement against the use of explosives such as fireworks.
Despite existing bans and efforts by law enforcement, the items continue to find their way onto the streets, with some individuals managing to smuggle and resell them illegally.
Investigations into the illegal possession of the explosives are ongoing.
