A man who was charged in 2019 for stabbing his co-worker to the left arm resulting in his arm being amputated, was on Tuesday committed to stand trial at the High Court.

34-year-old Ryan Lowe, of Eccles, East Bank Demerara, was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on November 23, 2016, at Dump Site, Eccles, East Bank Demerara, he wounded Leroy Cummings with intent to commit murder.

Following a Preliminary Inquiry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, Senior Magistrate Leron Daly ruled that a prima facie case had been made out against Lowe.

As such, he was committed to stand trial for the offence at the next practicable sitting of the Demerara Criminal Assizes.

According to reports, on the day in question, Lowe and others were at a dumpsite drinking alcohol while Cummings was asleep in a hammock.

Lowe then went and confronted Cummings about some items he allegedly stole from him. The two began to argue during which Lowe armed himself with a knife and dealt Cummings several stabs to his arm and body.

Cummings was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he was admitted for his injuries.

As a result of his injuries, his left arm had to be amputated. The matter was reported to the police. Lowe was arrested three years after the incident and later charged.
