Life sentence for ex-cop over WCD double murder

In a courtroom scene filled with tension, Prince Reid, a former policeman aged 61, broke down in tears as he received a life sentence for the murder of two men.
He had driven his minibus into them during a chaotic confrontation.
After extensive deliberation in mid-February, a diverse jury of twelve unanimously found Reid guilty of murdering Amit Jairam, also known as Rocky, aged 36, and Randy Richard Melville, aged 20.

Last week, Justice Simone Morris-Ramlall of the Demerara High Court ruled that Reid must serve a minimum of 23 years in prison before being considered for parole.
Represented by attorney Adrian Thompson, Reid faced prosecution led by State Counsel Rbina Christmas.
The incident unfolded on December 16, 2017, at the Tarla Dam tarmac in Meten-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara (WCD).
Reports indicate that during a dispute arising from a game of “Chic Chic,” Reid assaulted three individuals and stabbed another before using his minibus as a weapon against Jairam, and Melville.
Melville passed away at some point after the tragedy, but Jairam passed on the morning following the incident.
