Journalists Honoured at World Press Freedom Day Brunch

May 3 2025- Several members of Guyana’s media fraternity were recognised for their outstanding contributions to journalism during a World Press Freedom Day brunch hosted at State House in Georgetown on Saturday.
President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali presented this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award to Ronald “Ron” Robinson, celebrating his decades of dedication to the field and his impact on national media development.
The Excellence in Media Award was also conferred on three distinguished journalists: Zenella Tamaira Marks, Merrano Isaacs, and Tusika Martin. These individuals were recognised for their commitment to ethical reporting, balanced journalism, and their role in fostering public awareness and accountability through their work.
The award ceremony was part of Guyana’s observance of World Press Freedom Day, themed “Reporting in the Brave New World – The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Press Freedom and the Media.”
The occasion served not only as a moment of recognition for veteran and emerging media professionals but also as a reminder of the press’s vital role in safeguarding democracy, promoting transparency, and upholding human rights in Guyana.
