Indian Investors Set to Introduce Biofertilizer Technology in Guyana

Minister of Agriculture Zulfikar Mustapha, recently convened a meeting with a delegation of investors from India to discuss the upcoming trials for a revolutionary biofertilizer technology in Guyana.

The innovative biofertilizer is poised to enhance yields in rice and sugar cane production across the country.

The introduction of this new biofertilizer marks a significant milestone in agricultural innovation in Guyana. A series of trials is slated to commence shortly, with the anticipation of successful outcomes paving the way for its introduction to the local market.

The shift towards biofertilizers over chemical alternatives aligns with global trends as farmers worldwide seek sustainable solutions to enhance soil health and productivity. Biofertilizers are increasingly favored for their eco-friendly nature and reduced long-term impact on soil quality.

During the meeting, Minister Mustapha emphasized the potential of this technology to revolutionize agricultural practices in Guyana, fostering greater sustainability and productivity in key sectors such as rice and sugar cane cultivation.

Accompanying Minister Mustapha at the meeting was the Ministry of Agriculture’s Director General, Mr. Madanlall Ramraj, underlining the government’s commitment to fostering partnerships and embracing cutting-edge agricultural technologies for the benefit of Guyanese farmers.

As Guyana looks towards a future of sustainable agriculture, the collaboration with Indian investors on biofertilizer technology represents a promising step towards achieving higher yields, improved soil health, and greater agricultural resilience.
