Guyanese Crandon Commits to Miami’s Barry University

Guyanese Akeem Crandon will join NCAA Division II side Barry University in Miami for the upcoming NCAA season, on a full-ride scholarship which will see him mixing his on-court capability with his academic ability to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering.
The Guyanese center, who also can play the forward position also had 3 other offers from NCAA Division I teams going into the new season but relayed that had he taken the offers, he would’ve been ineligible to play Division I basketball because of his age (23) and him being graduated since 2017.
Akeem Crandon joined ASA College to study Medical Health Technology in 2021 (Which he completed in February of this year), where he also competed in NJCAA tournaments as part of the College’s Basketball Program. In his first season with ASA College, Crandon averaged a double-double, 13 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 blocks, which saw him being awarded first-team all-region for New York NJCAA JUCO.
Crandon said that he is excited about the new season ahead with his new team while giving thanks to the Hope Foundation program (managed by Gordon and Shawn James), for the opportunities he has been given in the US. Akeem Crandon will suit up for Barry University later on this year when the new season commences.
