Investigations are ongoing following two separate discoveries of firearms-related items along the East Coast Demerara on Sunday, April 19, 2026, which resulted in multiple persons being taken into custody.
In one incident at Lusignan around 18:30 hrs, a 19-year-old Venezuelan national of Sophia was detained after a suspected firearm was found in his possession. Reports indicate that the object, described as a black 9mm pistol, contained a magazine with eight live rounds of ammunition. The weapon was recovered after it was discarded during an encounter.
The teen, who is not licensed to carry a firearm, remains in custody as the matter continues.
In a separate late-night operation between 22:30 hrs and 23:00 hrs at Hope Estate, several items, including ammunition and a suspected air rifle, were discovered at a residential property.
The items were reportedly found concealed in a bedroom and included six 12-gauge cartridges, forty 9mm rounds of ammunition, and one air rifle.
Four individuals—a 55-year-old farmer, a 51-year-old woman, a 26-year-old man, and a 23-year-old woman—were taken into custody in connection with the discovery.
