Govt to Launch National Procurement Website

— A Game Changer for Transparency and Access
October 16 2025
Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo has announced that in an effort to modernize public procurement and create more opportunities for Guyanese businesses, the Government of Guyana will soon amend existing legislation to pave the way for the launch of a national procurement website next year.
Speaking at his press conference earlier today, he described the initiative as a transformative step toward greater efficiency, transparency, and inclusivity in how government contracts are advertised and awarded.
He posited that this new portal will allow the government to advertise publicly funded projects on a broader level noting that the current system — which relies heavily on newspaper ads — often fails to reach enough people.
He highlighted that despite the state spending over $800 million on advertising in 2024, the results were “unsatisfactory.”
The Vice President said the new website will not only expand public access to tender notices but also significantly cut costs associated with traditional advertising.
Dr. Jagdeo emphasized that the initiative will extend procurement access to hinterland communities, ensuring that businesses and individuals in every region can benefit from public-sector opportunities.
He underscored that this effort forms part of President Dr. Irfaan Ali’s broader commitment to boost efficiency, accountability, and transparency within the public procurement system — a pledge first articulated in his inauguration address.
Once operational, the procurement portal is expected to revolutionize how government projects are advertised and accessed — bringing Guyana’s public procurement into the digital age and empowering citizens nationwide to participate in national development.
