Produce from Region 1 to cushion Georgetown’s Market price

Arrangements are being made to have produce from Region 1 brought out to the coast to cushion the price for ground provision and other commodities in the marketplace. Sweet Potato and Eddo are scarce and have been attracting a high price according to wholesalers and retailers at the Bourda Market.
Amidst the rising costs for commodities, President Irfaan Ali made a pre-dawn visit to Bourda Market Wednesday and interacted with shoppers, and wholesale and retail vendors as he sought first-hand information on the market prices.

The president was told of the costs and the difficulties associated with moving the produce from the farm to the market.
He told the vendors that in Region 1, a lot of produce is available and systems will be looked at to have retailers and wholesalers source from that region.
For most of the walkabout, the president seemed concerned with the wholesale and retail prices citizens pay for items in the market
